Chicken Coops

A chicken coop is a housing where chickens are kept. Inside there will often be nest boxes for egg laying along with perches on which the birds can sleep. Backyard coops are small and fenced, often with chicken wire, allowing chickens an area to roam, peck and hunt insects. Chicken tractors are floorless coops which can be dragged about a yard. Some backyard chickens are allowed to free range, sleeping in coops. Urban chicken keeping has led to manufactured chicken coops such as the Eglu, which are designed for tight spaces and have a tidy look. Chicken waterers and feeders are an important part of keeping chickens as pets. There are hanging waterers/feeders, nipple waterers and nipple cup waterers.

If you are thinking of jumping aboard the chicken keeping bandwagon and getting a few chickens of your own then one of the most important decisions that you going to have to make is choosing the right sort of accommodation for your new feathered friends. After all, they will be spending most of their lives in whatever housing you decide is appropriate. If you want to have happy healthy birds (and who doesn't?) and be rewarded with a daily egg for breakfast, it is important that your chickens think your choice has been a good one!
